LOCAL CENTENARIAN DECORATED FOR HIS ROLE IN THE LIBERATION OF FRANCE IN 1944

One of Chesterford Homecare’s clients, Ken Wilson, now aged 103, recently received a letter from the French Ambassador awarding him the prestigious Legion d’Honneur in recognition of his service in the Second World War. Ken landed in Normandy a week after D-Day. He was a battery troop leader in a field regiment of the Royal Artillery within the 15th Scottish Division.  He took part in the campaigns to liberate France and the Low Countries, finishing up near Lubeck in Germany at the time of the surrender. Ken makes light of his war service and his award and says he was just doing his bit.  As he modestly puts it: “I got round and about without doing anything too startling”, but his family and friends are very proud of him and this well-deserved honour.
